Review: Love Me Not by Shayna Astor

Y'all, go easy on me, it's my first post and I haven't blogged in YEARS.

*Spoilers Ahead*

I loved Chase and Liz so much. Or should I call them Satan's Spawn and Princess. The banter was there from the beginning and never faltered. Chase and Liz are both competing for partner at their law firm, and unfortunately have to battle for it while hating each other and working on the same high-profile case. From the beginning, while not happy about it, they work awesome together and everything is going smoothly. Until one when the tension become too much and they're all over each other. From then on, they can't get enough of one another and continue to bang every chance they can, including the supply closet and basement at work, while everyone else is oblivious to their excursions. Slowly the relationship develops into more without them realizing. Spending nights at each others houses, going on Friday night dates (Or as Chase calls them, "Two coworkers getting dinner together"), and eventually Chase meeting her parents during a visit to the facility they live at. When Liz's dad passes away, Chase drops everything and is there for her, even helping her with a list of things that need to be done, since his mom passed away years before. Because Liz took so much time off to grieve, Chase ends up getting the promotion, and Liz quits on the spot, moving out of her home and into a house she had bought a few hours away. I have a feeling that no matter who was promoted, Liz would end up quitting. Several months go by and one day Chase just shows up, telling her that he's in love with her and can't handle the separation anymore. He ends up putting in his resignation at the law firm and moved in with Liz, and they get married and get a dog (who drives Liz's cat, Cheshire, insane). There's a scene in the middle of the book where he gets her to bring him to see the house (she bought it because her dad was in love with it from childhood), and there's mention of tearing down the barn or remodeling it, and I could perfectly picture the two of them running their own firm (they both practice criminal and divorce law) out of the renovated barn. It would have been so perfect. This book had the perfect balance if hate, banter, romance, and shit talking. I highly recommend it to anyone who needs an easy romance read. Shayna does some awesome writing and is quickly becoming one of my favorite authors.

BlurbCan the bane of your existence also be the love of your life?

Chase Andrews. Just his name alone narrows my eyes and sets my teeth on edge.

Seeing him make partner would be the insult of the century. That job is mine and I intend to land it. But when the high profile case drops into our office, we’re pushed together to work on it. Winner take all.

Things take a turn when one late night, something ignites between us. Then it happens again…and again…and again.

Before I know it, I’m spending most nights at his house. Is our loathing turning into something else? It can’t be, because he doesn’t want the same things in life that I do. This is a recipe for disaster.

What happens when the thin line between hate and love becomes blurred?

Quote“I know you hate me. And guess what, Princess? I’m not so fond of you either. Not only have we been competition since day one, but you’ve been a royal thorn in my side since then too. For the duration of this case, we have to work together, but let’s find a way to make it as painless as possible. I’ll do my best to hold back on what may seem overly cocky if you stop being such a f*cking b!tch all the time.”

My mouth pops open at the last sentence, but I quickly regain my composure. Of course he’d think I’m a b!tch. So I stand and extend my hand. With a quick look, he straightens and takes my delicate hand in his large one and shakes it.

“Now then, what did you have in mind about this?”

Quote"You could have left with her, you know. I'm a big girl."

"That's not really what this is, Elizabeth. Do you not believe me when I tell you, you're the best sex I've ever had? Besides, I don't really sleep with the same person more than once."

I freeze as he keeps walking. Stopping a few steps ahead, he turns to look at me, his eyebrows raised and hands in his pockets. "But…we've been sleeping together for months."

QuoteI never realized how hot the clichéd clearing of the desk really is until he does it. Strong hands on my waist lift me to the edge as he hikes up my pencil skirt. I fumble with his belt buckle as his hand slides up my thigh, shifting my panties to the side so he can feel me.

“Next time you tell me you hate me, you might want to tell your p*ssy. I don’t think it got the interoffice memo. You’re f*cking soaked for me.”

“Don’t flatter yourself. It’s been a while and my body’s just excited. You have nothing to do with it.”
